Yoti ID Checks on GoVo
Charities can now decide whether or not an ID check is required for each volunteering role they post on GoVo.
What’s new
When you create or edit an opportunity (via the spreadsheet upload), you’ll see a field where you can choose whether an ID check is required.
If a role doesn’t need an ID check, volunteers will be able to complete their application and move straight through to the next stage without ID verification.
When an ID check is not required
Some volunteering roles carry very low risk and don’t require identity verification.
You can select ‘No ID check required’ for roles that:
-
Take place in public or group settings (e.g. park clean-ups, community gardening, event support).
-
Don’t involve direct contact with vulnerable people.
-
Don’t include access to private homes, personal data or money.
-
Are short-term, one-off or remote administrative tasks.
In these cases, removing the ID check helps keep the process fast and accessible — allowing volunteers to get started more quickly.
When an ID check is recommended
You should continue to require an ID check for roles that:
-
Involve visiting or supporting people in their homes.
-
Work directly with younger, older or vulnerable individuals.
-
Require handling of sensitive data, money or equipment.
-
Form part of a long-term or regular commitment where safeguarding applies.
Why this matters
This update gives charities control and flexibility while maintaining strong safeguarding where it’s needed most.
It also helps open up more volunteering opportunities by removing unnecessary barriers for low-risk roles.
