Troubleshooting Spreadsheet Upload Errors
If you’re having trouble uploading your opportunity spreadsheet to GoVo, check the following common issues before raising a support ticket.
1. My spreadsheet won’t upload
If your spreadsheet won’t upload and you can’t identify what’s causing the error:
-
Check that you haven’t entered text into any greyed-out columns.
-
Greyed-out columns are for system use only and should remain blank.
-
Remove any text from these columns, save the spreadsheet, and try uploading again.
2. Spreadsheet has spelling errors
Use Excel’s built-in spellcheck before uploading:
-
Go to the Review tab.
-
Select Spelling.
-
To check the entire sheet, click the box in the top-left corner of your spreadsheet before running spellcheck.
This helps avoid spelling errors in your live opportunities.
3. My opportunities have grouped together
If multiple opportunities have merged into one listing:
-
You may have used the same Charity ID for several rows.
-
GoVo groups listings with the same Charity ID (useful for multi-shift roles).
If you want them to display separately:
-
Use a unique Charity ID for each opportunity, or
-
Leave the Charity ID field blank (it’s optional).
4. What should I use as my Charity ID?
The Charity ID field is optional and for your own reference.
-
Use a clear, short reference that helps you identify the opportunity.
-
Using the same ID across multiple rows will group them together.
-
Use a unique ID for each row if you want them to display separately.
5. My county is not in the dropdown list
If your county isn’t listed:
-
Select the nearest county to appear in searches for that area.
-
You can also add detail in your title or description.
-
Example: Retail Volunteer – Epsom
-
6. My opportunities are regional — how should I list them?
You can list opportunities in several ways:
-
By postcode, county, UK-wide, or full address.
If you want the same role to appear in multiple areas:
-
Add a new row for each location and update the county, postcode, or address as needed.
7. I’m trying to select County but get an error
If choosing a county causes an error:
-
Check that address and postcode fields are empty — they can’t be filled at the same time as County.
-
Make sure you’re selecting the county from the dropdown, not typing it manually.
8. I added a new opportunity but it isn’t showing
If your new opportunity doesn’t appear:
-
Check that the Published column is set to Yes.
-
If you added the new row at the top of the spreadsheet, this can cause problems.
-
Always add new rows to the bottom of your spreadsheet to avoid overwriting existing data.
