How to find and apply for opportunities

Step-by-step guidance for finding the right role and submitting your application.

You can start browsing opportunities on GoVo straight away — no account needed.

 

Here’s how:

 

  1. Search by postcode and/or keyword– Use the search box on the homepage. Enter your postcode to see roles nearby, or leave it blank to explore everything.

  2. Filter your results:

    • In person / remote / both – choose how you want to volunteer

    • Charity – search by name if you already know the organisation

    • Category – browse by cause (e.g. animal welfare, neighbourhood and community etc)

  3. Explore roles – Each listing explains what’s involved, who you’ll be helping, and any requirements.

  4. Create your account (for new users) – When you’re ready to apply, click on the join us button in the top right hand corner or if you're browsing an opportunity there will be a button inviting you to join within the opportunity. You'll register with your email address and some personal details. This gives you an area where you can track applications and manage your volunteering.

  5. Apply – Click the apply button and your application will go straight to the charity. Some roles may also ask for quick ID verification through Yoti for safeguarding. Please note: if you're viewing via desktop, the apply button stays in the top right hand corner of the screen so scroll to the top of the page to click apply!

Once submitted, your application will appear in your dashboard. The charity will review it and get back to you.
