How to create a GoVo account

Step-by-step guide to registering and setting up your profile.

Creating your GoVo account only takes a few minutes. Once set up, you’ll be able to save opportunities, apply to charities, and track your volunteering journey.

1. Sign up with your email or existing account

  • Click Join us on the homepage.

  • Choose to register with your email, or sign in using your existing Google or Microsoft account.

  • If you sign up with email:

    • Enter your email address and create a secure password.

    • Check your inbox for a confirmation email — it contains a 6-digit code. Enter this code on the site to activate your account.

2. Complete your About me section

This helps charities get to know you and makes your applications stand out.

  • Profile picture (optional) – add a photo to appear on your applications

  • My interests (optional) – choose causes you care about (e.g. health, animals, environment, arts, community support)

  • Accessibility adjustments (optional) – share any support that would help you volunteer comfortably (e.g. accessible parking, quiet workspace, easy-read information). These preferences are shared with organisations when you apply.

3. Add your personal information

Some details are required so that we can complete your ID verification. Others are optional and help improve your experience on GoVo.

You’ll be asked for:

  • Legal name – please use your official name as shown on your ID

  • Preferred name/pronouns (optional) – how you’d like to be addressed when volunteering

  • Email address – auto-filled from sign-up

  • Phone number (optional) – so charities can contact you if needed

  • Date of birth – to confirm eligibility for certain opportunities

  • Country of residence – confirms you live in England, Scotland or Wales

  • Addresses (optional – you can add home, work, or other to improve search results)

  • Diversity data (optional – e.g. disability, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, trans status. This helps ensure services are inclusive and representative).

4. ID verification with Yoti

At launch, all volunteers will need to complete ID verification through our trusted partner Yoti. This process takes just a few minutes.

  • ID verification helps keep everyone safe and gives charities confidence when reviewing applications.

  • In future, this requirement may change, but for now it applies to all volunteers when creating an account.

5. Manage your sign-in & security

  • Update your password anytime

  • If you forget it, click Forgot Password on the login page to reset

6. Start volunteering

With your account set up, you can:

  • Save opportunities to your dashboard

  • Apply for roles directly through GoVo

  • Track your applications in one place

💡 Tip: You don’t need to complete every optional field straight away. Start with the basics, and you can always update your profile later.
