How do I use markdown formatting to make my opportunities stand out?

When you add volunteer opportunities, you can use Markdown to make your text clearer and easier to read. Markdown is a simple way to add styles like headings, bold text, links, and bullet points without needing special software.

You just type the symbols directly into the spreadsheet before you upload.

1. Headings

Headings break up your text into sections.

  • Add a hash symbol # followed by a space at the start of the line.

  • More # symbols = smaller heading.

Examples:

# Main Heading
## Sub-heading
### Smaller sub-heading

2. Bold Text

Use two stars around a word or phrase to make it stand out.

Example:

We are looking for **friendly volunteers** to support our team.

3. Bullet Points

Bullet points make lists easier to scan.

  • Use a dash - followed by a space at the start of each item.

Example:

- Welcome visitors
- Make tea and coffee
- Chat with service users
