How to complete your Yoti ID check
Step-by-step guide to setting up your Yoti ID so you can start volunteering with GoVo.
Getting verified with Yoti only takes a few minutes:
-
Download the Yoti app – from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
-
Set up your account – enter your phone number and choose a secure PIN.
-
Scan your ID – use your phone’s camera to capture your passport, driving licence, or another accepted form of ID.
-
Take a quick video selfie – this proves the ID really belongs to you by using biometric data
-
Submit for verification – Yoti will check everything securely, usually in just a few minutes.
After verification
-
Your Yoti profile links directly to your GoVo account.
-
You’ll see your status marked as Verified in your GoVo account.
-
Once verified, you can apply for opportunities without needing to repeat the process.
- Please note: Charities may require further verification. If they do, you will be notified in your Yoti app to approve or decline the data request.
Frequently asked questions
What if my document doesn’t scan?
Make sure your ID is valid, in date, and well lit when you take the photo. If it still doesn’t work, try another supported document.
What if I don’t have a passport or driving licence?
You can also use a Biometric Residence Permit, Citizencard, or (in Scotland) a Young Scot National Entitlement Card. See the full list of supported documents for more detail.
How long does verification take?
Usually just a few minutes. Occasionally it may take longer if Yoti needs to check something manually.
Do I need to do this for every role?
No. Once your Yoti ID is verified, you can use it across all your GoVo applications.
What if I can't verify my ID straight away?
We encourage you to do this as soon as possible but if you need to revisit the verification process, go to your account page and click 'start' on the 'verify your identity' pop-up. If you haven't already, download the Yoti app and then use the 'scan' tab in the app to scan the QR code.
Who do I contact if I have problems?
For technical issues with the Yoti app, the fastest route is to raise a ticket through the app itself. You can also visit Yoti Support online for helpful articles and ways to get in touch.

💡 Tip: Be patient — even if verification takes a little longer, once it’s done you won’t need to repeat it again.
